Do you have to be a JCC student to take EEC renewal classes?
No. Because EEC CEU classes are continuing education courses, you do not have to be registered as a student at JCC. All you must do is fill out a continuing education registration form and either fax or mail it in or register via WebAdvisor.

Who can take EEC renewal classes?
Anyone can take EEC classes. Typical students include Teacher Assistants, those needing EEC renewal credits, and Early Childhood educators needing general professional development.

What is EEC?
Early Educator Certification (EEC) is North Carolina’s certification system for the field of Early Childhood. EEC is an acknowledgement of an individual’s verified level of educational achievement, based on a standardized scale. http://ncicdp.org/certification-licensure/eec-overview/

How do CEUs work?
1.0 (one) CEU = 10 contact hours, .5 CEUs = 5 contact hours

What are the Computer/Software Requirements that I will need?
  • USB port
  • 3GB RAM or greater
  • 2GB or greater available on hard drive
  • Cable modem or Broadband internet connections - Dial-up internet connection is NOT recommended for internet classes
  • PC Software:
    • Operating System minimums: Microsoft Windows Vista, or 7
    • Web Browser: Internet Explorer 8.0 or above
    • Productivity: Microsoft Office 2010 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook)
    • Documentation and ability to bring up PDF files: Adobe Reader
    • A reliable Anti-virus program
    • Computer software/apps that have the capabilities of watching video content (ex. YouTube videos, .wav files, .rm files, etc.)

What types of technology and skills do I need in order to participate in the JCC online CEU courses?
*Before enrolling in an Internet-based/online course at Johnston Community College, you should have access to a reliable computer with Internet. You should also be very comfortable demonstrating the following competencies:
  • General computer operation and start-up
  • Setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting through technical assistance resources from your Internet Service Provider.
  • Understand and have knowledge of basic word processing
  • Basic Internet skills
  • Knowledge of using e-mail
  • Knowledge of how to save a document and attach/upload a document

Do the online EEC CEUs count for in-service training hours for the Division of Child Development and Early Education (DCDEE)?
