EMT Basic Program

EMTs are usually the first healthcare professionals to reach patients with injuries, serious illnesses, and traumas. EMT training enables people to handle a variety of situations ranging from heart attacks to car accidents.

JCC offers day and night courses that meet National Standard Curriculum and North Carolina Office of EMS program guidelines.


Medical Responder to EMT Bridge Course

112 total hours; includes 12 field internship hours Medical Responder to EMT Initial classes are offered through area Fire Dept. and industries on an as needed basis. This course meets requirements for the NCOEMS and upon successful completion of the class, the student is eligible to sit for the NC Basic EMT exam.

Orientation date: April 29, 2014; 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Start date: May 6, 2014
Time: Tuesdays and Thursdays; 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.; occasional Saturday classes per schedule.

  • $180 Registration fee
  • $19 Clinical Liability Insurance fee (if not covered by sponsor provider)
Requirements:
  • NC MR Credential
  • High School Diploma / GED or successful completion of an entrance exam assessing Reading comprehension and English language skills at 10 grade level.
  • Students must be 17 years of age prior to the end of class.
  • AHA CPR certification

EMT Basic Initial: Day

Registration/Orientation: July 23, 201 at 09:00 a.m.
Classes begin August 13, 2014; 8:30 a.m.
Course Location: Pine Level Fire Department

  • Classes will be held off-campus at Pine Level Fire Department starting August 13th, 2014 at 8:30 a.m.
  • 203 total hours. 191 class room hours & 12 field internship hours
  • Weekly classes Wednesday 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
    Occasional Saturday classes according to schedule, 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
  • 12 hours clinical rotation with Emergency Medical Services required
  • AHA Healthcare Provider ($2.50 card fee) and NIMS certifications included
  • Emergency Vehicle Driving certification is optional for a separate registration fee of $70 non-affiliated.

    Textbook will be AAOS Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick & Injured; EMT Premier Package. More information available at orientation
  • Payment $201.50 in the form of a money order, credit card or personal check.
    • $180 Registration fee
    • $19 Clinical Liability Insurance fee (If not covered by sponsor provider)
    • $2.50 for AHA CPR card fee (optional)

Rescue and EMS may qualify for tuition waiver ($180 fee).
To receive tuition waiver:

  • EMS personnel must be listed on an official Johnston County agency roster. Provide a copy of the current roster at registration. Roster must include position and the current year.
  • Out-Of-County Fire and EMS personnel must include at registration a letter on official department letterhead that includes documentation of active membership, position and that this course is necessary for your job. One letter can list multiple members from an agency
  • Improper documentation at registration will result in tuition payment requirement before student will be allowed to register for class. This may affect guaranteeing your slot in class.
  • ***Private owned agencies and non-emergency transport services do not qualify for tuition waiver***
