Cost

The cost for in-service training courses is FREE for sworn law enforcement officers affiliated with a North Carolina Agency, otherwise you will be required to pay the designated registration fee.

Online Registration

Agency heads or their representatives or students should contact the Law Enforcement Coordinator or staff member to reserve seats for the class. 
  • You may preregister online or by printed form.
  • Printed forms should be mailed to:

  • Forms may also be faxed to (919) 464-2350.
If students find they cannot attend a class after registering, please notify the in-service staff as soon as possible.  Classes may be canceled if less than ten students are registered.  When classes must be canceled, every effort will be made to contact preregistered students.

Registration

Registration for the class takes place at the time class begins.  Students arriving late or leaving early will not receive full credit for classes.  Attendees must bring any issued equipment needed for the course on the day it will be used.

ISLET Course Repeats:

In-Service Law Enforcement Training A student enrolling in the same Occupational Extension course more than twice within a five-year period will pay the full student cost. This provision is waived if course repetition is required for certification, recertification, or licensure (All fees are subject to change by act of the North Carolina General Assembly).
Details of the changes are available in the Continuing Education office.

Cancellation Policy:

A course may be canceled if fewer than 10 persons enroll.

Executive Protection Operations

Course Dates: April 24-27, 2013
Course Description:
The Basics of Executive Protection Operations is a three (3) day course consisting of a minimum of forty (40) hours of instruction. Participants will also receive instruction and certification on flying armed.
With the exception of the first day, there are no set times to begin or end the day.
Each day will give the participants more objectives to complete in a given time frame. During this course, participants will be exposed to lecture, table-top and field exercises.
The course will end with a full-scale exercise.
This course is limited to 15 students. Come prepared for class.

Participants will need:
  • Change of clothing for each day to include business casual, a suit and comfortable shoes, handgun, concealable holster, spare mag pouch, OC, collapsible baton and a small flashlight.
  • A four-door sedan (unmarked), a letter from agency head allowing transportation of other officers and civilians during exercises.
  • Bring snacks that can be carried. No meal breaks are scheduled.

Crisis Intervention Team - JCC

Course Title: Crisis Intervention Team
Course Dates: April 15-19, 2013
Course Description:
Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) is an effective law enforcement training and response program designed for first responders who handle crisis calls involving people with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and alcohol and/or substance abuse disorders.

The CIT training is designed to:
  1. Provide supportive measures and an “on-the-job-tool” that can be used by law enforcement personnel to enhance and maintain officer, consumer and public safety.
  2. Provide intervention strategies and alternatives to assist in directing individuals with mental illness to appropriate health care systems during crisis contacts and reduce their involvement in the criminal justice system.

Scuba - Basic Police

Course Title: Basic Police Scuba (60 hours)
Course Dates: August 12-17, 2013
Course Fee: $50 payable Day 1 of class to Instructor
Course Description:
The Police Basic Open Water SCUBA dive course is designed to teach law enforcement officers the basic fundamentals of an entry level SCUBA diver, without the distractions of the many diversionary sillinesses injected by the dive industry into the SCUBA training program. The student is trained by experienced professional instructors in a very structured program specifically geared to the law enforcement officer and his/her tolerances. The student will graduate with a universal open water diver certification, and have completed a course more stringent than the civilian counterpart. Students will be prepared for the advanced diver courses leading to certifications in Emergency, Public Safety Diver, Rescue, Recovery, Underwater Crime Scene Investigations, and a list of Technical Diver Certifications leading to Dive Master, and Instructor if desired.

Scuba - Advanced Police

Course Title: Advanced Police Scuba (50 hours)
Course Dates: September 9-13, 2013
Course Fee: $50 payable Day 1 of class to Instructor
Course Description:
This course is offered to Sworn Law Enforcement personnel who have current Open Water Diver Certifications.
The course is comprised of 5 specialty courses and check out dives resulting in the Advanced Open Water Diver Certification. The specialty courses making up the Advanced OW course consists of: Deep Diver, Underwater Navigation, Night / Limited Visibility, Search and Recovery, and NITROX.

Tactical Tracker Training

Course Title: Tactical Mantracking for Law Enforcement Level I, II, III
Level I Course Dates: September 23-27, 2013
Level II Course Dates: May 20-24, 2013
Land Navigation Course Dates: TBA

Course Description:
The Tactical Mantracking Courses are designed to train selected LE personnel in tactical tracking skills, tactics and operational procedures that are necessary to conduct tracking operations in pursuit of fleeing subjects, lost or missing persons, locate sites of illicit activities.

The training teaches students to find and track spoor without use of electronics, or animal assistance, and work in conjunction with either or both. The purpose of these courses is to provide LE personnel with skills and tactics to safely gather forensic track evidence and intelligence.

Rural Surveillance for Law Enforcement

Course Title: Rural Surveillance for Law Enforcement
Course Dates: June 3-7, 2013
Course Description:
The Rural Surveillance for Law Enforcement Course is designed to teach officers how to insert, establish, and conduct an observation post from rural hite sites, for the purpose of gathering useful data to be used as evidence and intelligence. The Course covers issues for every part of conducting a successful rural surveillance operation from planning, briefing, insertion, camouflage, movement, navigation, to associated legal issues.
