Mission
The mission of the JCC Medical Assisting program is to graduate multi-skilled health care professionals qualified to adequately perform entry level administrative, clinical and laboratory procedures and pass the (AAMA) Certified Medical Assistant Exam.Course work includes instruction in scheduling appointments, coding and processing insurance accounts, billing, collections, computer operations; assisting with examinations/treatments, performing routine laboratory procedures, electrocardiography, supervised medication administration; and ethical/legal issues associated with patient care.

Program Outcomes:
Students will comply with and adhere to OSHA standards, apply basic knowledge of the clinical medical assisting process and concepts of health and illness when implementing medical care. Students will appropriately prepare patients, and assist providers with various examinations, procedures, and tests. Students will adequately perform administrative duties and effectively communicate with patients, coworkers, and employers. Students will maintain a professional appearance and be punctual. Graduates will pass the AAMA Certified Medical Assisting Exam and demonstrate strong work ethic and legal principles in the delivery of care. Graduates typically become employed within 6 months of graduation.
Occupational Outlook:
Johnston Community College is accredited with the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs upon the recommendation of the Curriculum Review Board of the American Medical Assistants Endowment. Graduates are eligible to take the AAMA Certification Examination to become Certified Medical Assistants.
Employment opportunities include physician’s offices, health maintenance organizations, health departments, and hospitals.
