Academic Related Courses (ACA)
All students in certificate, diploma, and associate degree programs are required to complete an orientation course to graduate from the College. The course is designed to help incoming students learn and adjust to the academic and social environment of the College. Students will also gain information to help develop behaviors and skills critical for becoming an engaged learner and successful student. Students are strongly advised to register for this course during their first semester at the college.
In the course, the various services provided at the college are explained. The policies and procedures of the College are also discussed. Special emphasis is placed on study skills and personal development essential for success.
Students will take an Academic Related Course (ACA) as their orientation course. Students who are required to take two or more developmental courses in either Reading or English will also need to enroll in ACA 118 College Study Skills. During the admissions interview with a counselor, students will receive a course assignment sheet indicating whether they are to take ACA 111, ACA 118 or ACA 122.
