Programs of Study
At Johnston Community College, students apply and are admitted to programs of study.
The curriculum for each program of study is designed in accordance with the Curriculum
Standards mandated by the N.C. Community College System. State approval of each curriculum
is required prior to the offering of courses within a program.
On each Curriculum Standard, there are requirements for general education, major hours, and other required hours.
The terms "major" and "area of concentration" are defined by the College as follows:
A major includes those courses which provide specific job knowledge or skill and comprise the majority of the hours in each program of study. An area of concentration is a group of courses required beyond the core for a specific related employment field.
