About the Arboretum

The mission of the Arboretum at Johnston Community College is to promote prudent and responsible use of cultivated plants and to promote the conservation of native species through the acquisition, evaluation and aesthetic display of selected plant materials in an educational environment for students, visitors, the green industry and local citizens.

In addition to our community events, we offer visitors walking trails along the Southern Garden, showcasing traditional trees, flowers and ornamental shrubs in the southern region. Enjoy dogwoods, azaleas, lilies, roses, and irises blooming throughout the year.

Come visit us! We are located at 1240 E. Market Street in Smithfield, NC. Our walking trails open in late spring and feature some handicap accessibility.
