Beginner Horticulture

Horticulture
This course is designed for instruction in organic planting, growing, and harvesting of vegetables in a residential setting.  The curriculum is designed to provide students with the foundational knowledge necessary for successful growing of organic, homegrown edibles.
 
Class objectives include:
  • Site evaluation and garden set-up
  • Building healthy soil
  • Understanding the three distinct NC growing seasons
  • Seed preservation, composting, and harvest recommendations

Class  is held at the JCC Arboretum,
Tuesdays 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. and Fridays 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Registration fee = $130

Registration Options: 

  1. Pay for class with debit/credit card:  
    Complete your registration online through Self-Service Instant Enrollment
    In Course Code box, type 'Defensive Driving' (click Search at the bottom of the page)
    Click 'Select' button next to the class you wish to attend,
    Then Add Section (class will be added to cart)
    Click 'Next' and follow prompts from there to complete registration and make payment

  2. Paying for class by mail
    Print the Continuing Education Registration Form (PDF)
    Complete ALL highlighted sections and submit with payment to the mailing address listed on the top of the registration form. Please note: This method will be slower, and your requested class may not be available when the form arrives.
