JCC’s HVACR program granted accreditation from HVAC Excellence

Johnston Community College’s HVACR program was recently granted accreditation from HVAC Excellence. This programmatic accreditation is an independent, third-party review of an educational program. Programs undergoing the accreditation process are compared to established, industry-accepted standards designed to ensure students receive quality training in the HVACR industry.

As part of the process, JCC’s HVACR program completed a detailed, comprehensive self-study, that demonstrated compliance with each of these required standards. An accreditation review board from HVAC Excellence then thoroughly assessed and approved the self-study. Then, they sent a team to JCC for an intense, on-site review. When that was complete, the HVAC Excellence accreditation review board unanimously decided to grant accreditation of JCC’s HVACR program.

Students who enroll in the program can be assured it has met or exceeded national standards and that they will be professionally trained for success in the field. The program is now listed in the directory of HVAC Excellence accredited programs.

JCC's HVACR program has been able to achieve a higher-than-average pass rate of 83.25% on the EPA Section 608 Certification, which is federally-required to purchase and handle refrigerants. By comparison, the national average according to the ESCO Institute, a leading testing agency, is 78%.

“Since I started teaching HVAC and Refrigeration at JCC, I never imagined this program could make it to the level it is on today. We've truly been transformed from a neglected program into one I'd put up against any in the nation,” HVAC Excellence Certified instructor Brent Evans says.
