Mechanical Engineering Technology

Program Description

Mechanical Engineering Technology Program 2021The Mechanical Engineering Technology program is a hands-on 2-year program that places an emphasis on the integration of theory and practical applications in Mechanical Engineering. The program's course work covers Engineering principles, applied mechanics, computer aided design, computer aided manufacturing, 3D printing, and oral and written communication. The program will prepare students to work as technologists in the design and development as well as the manufacturing sectors. Program graduates can also transfer to a 4-year Engineering Technology program and obtain a Bachelor’s degree.

Program Content

This program will prepare graduates who possess an understanding of the principles of Mechanical Engineering as well as the technical skills to put their understanding to practice. The topics students will learn include: Statics & Strength of materials, Manufacturing Materials, Computer Aided Manufacturing, Hydraulics and Pneumatics, 2-D drafting, 3-D Solid Modeling, 3-D Printing, and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).

Employment Opportunities

Upon completion, the majority of graduates obtain employment as design and testing Technologists. Their main responsibilities are to:

  • Assist in designing and testing new products
  • Assist in testing products to determine causes of failure and areas of improvement

Graduates can also obtain employment as mechanical drafters and electro-mechanical technicians.
