Child Development Center
Welcome to Johnston Community College Child Development Center
Our center is an on-campus child care facility used for the care of young children, and training of quality early childhood professionals. It is a lab school and a model. It is owned and operated by Johnston Community College. We serve one to five years old children. We are proud to be a North Carolina 5-star licensed child care program – the highest rating for child care centers in North Carolina. We are also nationally accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (the only facility in Johnston County to have earned this prestige). These accomplishments demonstrate that we are committed to excellence in early childhood education and care with exemplary staff and high program standards.
We are open to all children and families who may benefit from our program (JCC affiliated and community families) – regardless of race, color, religion, nationality, age, disability, or creed.
Mission Statement
As an integrated part of the college, the mission of JCC Child Development Center is to create a living, functioning example of early childhood education "best practices." In this way, we meet the needs of the families we serve by providing the best possible environment for our children to learn and grow. We also meet the needs of the college and the community at large, by helping train teachers to work with young children in a caring, respectful, and enriching way. Our goal is to provide the best care possible for young children, and to help Early Education Students become next generation of Early Education Professionals.
Program History
The Johnston Community College Child Development Center was established in 1998 as an extension of the Early Childhood Education department to serve the needs of students in the program, as well as parents attending classes at the college and community families who need quality care for their children during working hours. Since then we have grown from one classroom of preschoolers to a child care program for toddlers to preschoolers. Each semester, Our CDC hosts a number of JCC Early Childhood Education adult students completing their "practicum" course, as well as other adult student in other academic disciplines who want to learn more about the growth and development of young children from JCC and surrounding universities.
Program Philosophy
JCC provides a warm, safe and secure environment for young children. Our caring and professional teaching staff guide children through in-depth studies of real-world topics that interest them. Each unit of study is child initiated and teachers provide interactive learning experiences that motivate children to be actively involved in their own learning, leading them to produce high-quality work and to grow as individuals and collaborators. We also strive to promote the intellectual, physical, mental, social and emotional development of each child in our care. In this development, we consider ourselves partners with families in the nurturing of children and we believe that this partnership encourages the highest level of growth.
Highly qualified Early Childhood Staff:
