Phlebotomy

Program Description

The Phlebotomy curriculum prepares individuals to obtain blood and other specimens for the purpose of laboratory analysis. Course work includes proper specimen collection and handling, communication skills, and maintaining patient data.

This 220-hour course provides students class/lab/clinical instruction in blood sampling and specimens for laboratory analysis. Upon completion, students are eligible to take the ASCP National Certification Exam.

Prerequisites

  1. Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support card.
  2. Two matching government ID cards (Photo driver’s license/social security card/military or passport).
  3. High School Diploma / High School Equivalent and High School Transcript – if not, must pass a reading test.

Employment Opportunities

Graduates may qualify for employment in hospitals, clinics, physicians’ offices, and other health care settings and may be eligible for national certification as phlebotomy technicians.
