This space also includes events and competitions to facilitate and celebrate local writers. The focus of the Writer’s Desk is to support writers through connections with the JCC campus and the community.
Each spring, Johnston Community College offers the Cynthia DeFord Adams Literary Competition to students. This competition is funded by the Cynthia DeFord Adams endowment, and student writers compete in the categories of poetry, short fiction, and short non-fiction. Winners are honored at the annual Celebration of Writers.
