Building a Future Through Heart and Hustle

For Nour Issa, walking across the stage to receive his Nurse Aide Certificate wasn’t just the end of a chapter—it was the celebration of a transformative journey through Johnston Community College’s Career and Technical Leadership Academy (CTLA).

“My time at JCC has been a part of my life that I hope will always stay with me,” Nour shared. “From instructors like Mr. Brickman, Mr. Lee, Dr. Jackson, and Ms. Baker—teachers who genuinely care about their students—to clubs and activities I’ll never forget (let’s go JoCo Robos!), JCC has given me the support I needed to accomplish what little I have. I truly couldn’t have done it without that support.”

As a CTLA student, Nour pursued the Nurse Aide program with a mix of discipline and compassion that made him stand out. Whether he was mastering clinical skills, prepping for certification exams, or lending a hand to his peers, Nour brought a kind of leadership that inspired excellence.

That same leadership extended beyond the classroom. Nour was selected to serve on the College's Strategic Enrollment Management Committee—a role that placed his voice at the table in shaping how JCC connects with and supports future students. His insight and perspective as a student were invaluable, offering a grounded and aspirational lens to the work of enrollment planning.

He served as the Student Government Association Vice President and was invited to speak at the Spring Commencement Ceremony at Campbell University. Addressing graduates and guests, he reflected on perseverance, purpose, and the power of education to change lives.

Nour’s exceptional commitment to leadership and service earned him recognition at the state level. He was selected as a recipient of the Governor Robert Scott Leadership Award, a statewide honor created by the North Carolina Association of Community College Presidents. This award not only celebrates outstanding student leadership but also pays tribute to former Governor Bob Scott’s enduring legacy in championing community colleges and accessible education.

In addition, Nour was honored with Johnston Community College’s 2025 Academic Excellence Award, one of most prestigious recognitions for student achievement, also recognized by the state.

And Nour’s story doesn’t end here. He has been accepted to Johns Hopkins University, where he will continue his studies and pursue his dream of making a lasting impact in healthcare.

Nour's legacy at JCC is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when potential meets opportunity.
