Medication Aide

In this 24-hour, state-approved Medication Aide course, you’ll learn in both the classroom and the lab. You’ll practice the six rights of medication administration, focus on accuracy, follow infection control guidelines, and understand patient rights and your scope of practice.

After you complete the course, you’ll be eligible to take the N.C. State Board Medication Aide Exam for skilled nursing homes.

Requirements

  • Advanced English Skills
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support Card
  • Current DHSR NA I registry validation
  • Government Issued Drivers License or Photo ID
  • Government Issued Social Security Card
  • High School Diploma or GED

Must have a Current Division of Health Service Regulation (DHSR) Nurse Aide I registry validation.

Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification (must remain valid for the entire course).

Required at all times during class, labs & clinicals.

Must wear student uniform to class.

Must wear white nonskid leather shoes.

Must wear a Name Badge.

Must have a Stethoscope.

Attendance Policy

Attendance is Mandatory. Missing more than eight hours of class, lab, or clinical time may result in dismissal.

Makeup assignments are required for the amount of time missed up to 8 hours.

Punctuality is Required. Students are considered tardy one minute after the scheduled start time.

Grading Policy

Minimum Passing Score: 78% (no rounding of grades).

Students must pass ALL components (classroom, lab, and clinical) to successfully complete the course.

Refund and Withdrawal Policy

100% Refund if withdrawing before the first class.

75% Refund if withdrawing within the first 10% of the class duration.

Transfers to another section depend on availability.

 

Submit Required Documents to the Health Education or Nurse Aide Faculty in the Elsee Building:

  • Completed Registration Form that you receive from the department.
  • Copies of photo identification, Social Security card, and educational documents.
  • Proof of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification (if required for your program).
