Vic McCormick is the new vice president of continuing education at Johnston Community College (JCC). Interim President, Dr. Kenneth A. Boham made the announcement which became effective August 1, 2022.
McCormick has been employed at JCC for 18 years. He began his tenure in Information Technology, but transitioned to Continuing Education after receiving his Master’s degree in Education. McCormick then served as associate vice president of workforce development.
In his new role, McCormick oversees public safety, academic and career readiness, health education, nurse aide programs, workforce development and biotechnology. McCormick has big plans for those areas.
Right now, new greenhouses are being constructed at the Arboretum. McCormick wants to bring back the once popular plants sales at JCC. McCormick says the plant sales are just one way for JCC to connect with the community.
“I am excited about being able to offer new courses that are community-based. I want to strengthen our trade courses and put national certifications behind them,” McCormick says.
The new greenhouse, which will also be used for horticulture classes, should be ready by March of 2023.
McCormick says his greatest joy comes from seeing students become successful. “It’s rewarding. People will stop me and tell me what they are doing now. You can’t put a price on that,” he adds.
